Retreat ceremony

Captain Kermit Evans, commander of the 27th Civil Engineer Squadron Explosives Ordnance Disposal Flight, at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M. was killed in an emergency helicopter landing Dec. 3 near the shore of Lake Qadisiyah in western Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Captain Evans was one of 16 people aboard the Marine CH-46 helicopter and one of four servicemembers killed as a result of the landing.
