Welcome to Cannon Air Force Base and your Airman and Family Readiness Center (A&FRC)
We are located directly behind Caprock Inn on 200 W. Terminal Avenue. We're here to provide support to active-duty military members, retirees, DoD civilians and family members of all the above. Our programs are administered by professionals, ready and willing to provide effective and positive support for you and your family to enhance the quality of life, well-being and readiness at Cannon. Feel free to stop by anytime Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
A&FRC Services
1. Air Force Aid Society: The Air Force Aid Society (AFAS) is here to help during times of need. If a financial emergency arises, stop by to see if the AFAS can help. Programs funded by the AFAS include the HAP Arnold Scholarship ($2,000 grant) Bundles for Babies, Child Care for PCS (20 hours of free care) Child Care for Volunteers, Car Care Because We Care (free oil change) Phone Home, providing phone cards for our deployed members, and Give Parents a Break (6 hours of free care) for families of deployed or remote members.
2. Family Readiness Program: The A&FRC provides a dynamic mix of assistance and support to individuals, families and leadership during deployments and separations, natural disasters and evacuations and personal crisis situations. Programs offered include pre-deployment, return and reunion, Hearts Apart Events, Key Spouse Program and the Morale Call Program.
3. Volunteer Resource Program: The Volunteer Resource Program is a base-wide program designed to utilize and recognize the contributions of volunteers at Cannon. Our primary function is to assist volunteer agencies in meeting their needs and to help individuals find volunteer opportunities that best suit their personal interests or career goals. Volunteers are a valuable and much appreciated resource to the Air Force community. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities available. Whether you're looking for a weekend project or a long-term program, we have something that's right for you.
4. Career Focus Program: Looking for a job? Contemplating a career change? The Career Focus Program assists transitioning active-duty members, spouses and other authorized personnel with obtaining employment in the local area. We continuously work with area employers and various organizations to gain job referrals. Participation in this program empowers participants to increase their marketability and employability through assessments, job search skills development and career planning.
5. Personal Financial Management Program (PFMP): The goal of PFMP is to help individuals and families meet their financial needs and goals through financial education, information and counseling. Budgeting, financial planning, investing and money management are all elements of this program. Set up an appointment with our Personal Financial Counselor to discuss your financial future.
6. Relocation Assistance Program: The Relocation Assistance Program provides relocation services to all active-duty military, retirees, Guard and Reservists on active duty, DoD civilians and their family members to ease the stress of moving in or out of Cannon. Orientation is provided to members and families as they settle into the Clovis/Portales communities. Our goal is to increase the knowledge and skills needed to accomplish a successful move. Our programs include Right Start, Loan Locker, Sponsor Training and Smooth Move.
Military One Source (http://www.militaryonesource.com and Military Home Front (http://Militaryhomefront.dod.mil) provides info and tools like Plan My Move and Military Installations; the next generation of tools to help members and their families during and after a move, as well as a contact for any questions, problems or assistance you might need (Registration required)
First-time sponsors and those who have not been trained as a sponsor during the past year must receive sponsorship training online at http://apps.mhf.dod.mil/ESAT.
7. Transition Assistance Program: The Transition Assistance Program is designed to assist armed forces personnel and their families who are separating or retiring from military service and transitioning back into the civilian environment. Visit one of our transition specialists if separation or retirement is in your future. We can assist you with career planning, resume review and job search programs.
8. Information and Referral: The Information and Referral Program provides information about installation and community resources by linking customer requests with available and appropriate service providers.
9. Family Life Education: Programs offered enhance the individual's knowledge, skills and abilities to anticipate and meet challenges throughout the various stages of the family life cycle. Attend Heart Link and learn more about your spouse's military career and how you fit into the puzzle.
10. Family Life Consultants: The program is intended to augment existing military support services and meet the emerging needs for the Active Duty Airmen, Air Guard/Reserve and family members. This non-medical counseling program is designed to address issues that occur across the military lifestyle and help Airmen and their families cope with the normal reactions to the stressful/adverse situations created by multiple deployments and reintegration.
11. Casualty Assistance/Survivor Benefits: Casualty Notifications: Provides training to Casualty Notification Officers and Commanders to ensure prompt, accurate and humane notification to next-of-kin. Assists Notification Officers by assembling notification team, preparing the Notification Officer and locating next-of-kin. Casualty Reporting: Handles all aspects of casualty reporting for all active duty members, family members and civilian personnel. Survivor Benefits: Briefs next-of-kin within 24 hours on service and VA benefits. Survivor Benefits Plan for Retirees: Assists members in preparing for retirement by briefing the Survivor Benefits Plan to the member and spouse (if applicable). Ensures the member has all available information to make an informed decision. Assists next-of-kin for all retirees in our service area, regardless of branch of service, with applications for Survivor Benefit Plan annuity and VA death and burial benefits.
12. School Liaison Officer (SLO): The SLO is here to assist you with any education-related needs pertaining to PCS's TDY's deployments, transitions, grade-level placements, special needs services, graduation requirements, etc. The SLO is prepared to answer any and all questions you have regarding education within the local area, and give you information about special programs that exist solely for military students.
13. Discovery Center: The Discovery Center contains a comprehensive collection of materials and resources to aid in all aspects of transition. Computers with internet access, printers, scanners and copiers are available for your use. We have an extensive reference library and resources for world-wide job searches. We're kid friendly and always have staff members on hand to assist you.
