Unit Mission
The mission of the 27th Special Operations Medical Group  is: "We keep Air Commandos in the Fight...the best warrior health support anytime, anywhere." In doing so, the unit supports commanders in ensuring a healthy, fit and deployable active duty force, as well as safeguarding families and "keeping the promise" to retirees.

The group maintains a robust role in the Aerospace Expeditionary Force  mission and provides significant levels of combat medical support during multiple deployments to Southwest Asia in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

In addition, unit personnel supported humanitarian missions in United States Southern Command. The 27th Special Operations Medical Group now stands ready to support United States Special Operations Command special operations taskings worldwide, as well as sustaining air and expeditionary force readiness and training and assisting Air National Guard and Air Reserve medical forces.

As an ambulatory care facility, the 27th Special Operations Medical Group provides a wide range of services to include: family practice, pediatrics, women's health, optometry, flight medicine, human performance training, dental, public health, allergy/immunizations, mental health, family advocacy, bioenvironmental engineering, laboratory services, pharmacy, diagnostic imaging, physical therapy and health and wellness.

The group's vision for the future is to always remain "Ready, Relevant and Respected."

Integrity First, Service Before Self, Excellence In All We Do.

1. Develop our people and hone our readiness skills.

2. Health ready our force ... safeguard our families ... sustain the benefit to our retirees.

3. Effectively plan for and manage mission-driven change.

Cannon's main medical facility was dedicated in 1968 at a cost of $3.5 million by Lt General Kenneth E. Pletcher, the Air Force Surgeon General. The 832d Medical Group served with the 832d Air Division at Cannon until the Air Division moved to Luke Air Force Base, Ariz., in the early 1970s. After the 832nd Air Division left, the unit became U.S. Air Force Hospital Cannon, under the 27th Tactical Fighter Wing; this designation lasted until Sept. 1, 1994, when the hospital was officially redesignated the 27th Medical Group. In 1993, a military construction project encompassing over 144,000 square feet of outpatient clinic space modified and updated the original structure. In October 1998, the 27th Medical Group outsourced its inpatient services to become a clinic-only facility, providing primary care to eligible beneficiaries, while partnering with TRICARE network providers in the surrounding areas for most specialty and sub-specialty care.
