10/29/2012 - CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M.  -- After months of hard work, dedication and a commitment to excellence, the Tumbleweed Lounge reopened under its new name "Dagger Alley" in The Landing Zone at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., Oct. 26.

Raising the bar and setting new standards is something Air Commandos stationed with the 27th Special Operations Wing strive for, this project was no exception.

The 27th Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron Specialized Maintenance Team was charged by wing leadership to put together crew members and accomplish all renovations to the lounge internally. The SMT received the project in July and was given until mid-November for completion - finishing weeks ahead of schedule was a proud moment for the team.

The new lounge features an entirely restructured layout and ambiance from its predecessor. The rustic-style pub hopes to draw in more business that directly benefits members of the Cannon community.

All money for the renovations to the lounge was provided through non-appropriated funding. The new lounge is a pivotal amenity for The Landing Zone and future success.

"It's definitely something you don't see very often as far as Air Force clubs," said Mara Jordan, 27th Special Operations Force Support Squadron club manager. "So many people have already complimented the new look and feel of the lounge. It's so beautiful and we have our skill craftsmen to thank for their amazing work and talent that they poured into this project."

The club celebrated its grand opening with a "Mad Scientist Halloween Party", complete with potions and laboratory snacks for those in attendance.

The lounge will maintain regular hours for lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Friday nights from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.

"We've done everything possible to ensure that this new facility meets all needs from our lowest ranking Airman to our commanders," Jordan added. "It's unique to the Air Force, has its own look and a cozy, quaint feel. If you haven't already, I'd encourage everyone to come out and see what our amazing troops have created for us - it really is a tribute to them for everyone's enjoyment."
