27TH SPECIAL OPERATIONS MISSION SUPPORT GROUP

The primary mission of the 27th Special Operations Mission Support Group is to provide combat support and base sustainment services to ensure the mission readiness of the 27th Special Operations Wing. These support services and activities the group's six squadrons provide include housing, facilities/infrastructure, fire protection, environmental management, explosive ordnance disposal, disaster preparedness, food service, law enforcement and security, communications, personnel support, operational contingency services and other base services as well as recreation activities for Cannon Air Force Base's military personnel, civilian employees, their families and area retirees.

The 27 SOMSG traces its beginnings to the 27th Air Base Group, which activated August 1, 1948, at Kearney Army Air Field, Nebraska. The group supported the wing mission of flying the F-82 aircraft. The 27th Air Base Group inactivated October 1, 1958, and reactivated on June 8, 1969, at Cannon, as the 27th Combat Support Group and became the 27th Mission Support Group. It was re-designated the 27 SOMSG October 1, 2007.
