Wings Over Cannon Frequently Asked Questions

  •   How do I get tickets to the Wings Over Cannon Air Show? 
    • Wings Over Cannon is free and open to the public. No tickets are required to enter Cannon Air Force Base.
  • Is there a cost to get in?
    • Wings Over Cannon is FREE and open to the public.
  • Where will I park?
    • Parking will be available on the ramp of the flightline. Our Security Forces will ensure proper traffic flow of cars from the Cannon AFB main gate to available parking. We recommend that people carpool to help free up parking spaces.  
  • What items do I need to bring to access Cannon Air Force Base?
    • For visitors driving on base, they will need a valid driver's license, proof of car insurance, and their vehicle registration.
  • How do I get to the Air Show?
    • Off Highway 60/84, take the ramp onto Chindit Blvd to the main gate of Cannon Air Force Base. The general public will only be allowed to enter through the main gate. DoD ID card holders will be allowed to enter through the Portales gate.
  • Will there be food for purchase at the Air Show?
    • Yes, there will be local food vendors and food trucks at Wings Over Cannon for visitors to purchase food, alcoholic drinks (we I.D.), and drinks. There will also be free water available.
  • Can I bring my own food and drinks?
    • We ask that visitors do not bring outside food or drinks.
  • How do I get VIP tickets?
  • How do I register my car to participate in Cannon Thunder?
  • Are alcoholic beverages allowed?
    • Alcoholic beverages may be purchased at the event, with proper I.D. You may NOT bring your own alcoholic beverages into the Air Show.
  • Will I be able to buy merchandise, t-shirts, patches, etc.?
    • There will be multiple booster clubs and private organizations from Cannon Air Force Base that will have merchandise for sale.
  • What time does the Air Show begin and end?
    • The main gate opens at 9:00 a.m. to the general public. The aerial performances will start at 12:00 p.m. And will go until approximately 2:00 p.m. Please note that inbound traffic to the main gate will end at 3:00 p.m.  Lastly, the general public will need to leave base prior to the main gate closing at 5:00 p.m.
  • How will Cannon AFB ensure my safety and security during Wings Over Cannon? 
    • Safety is our #1 priority! All vehicles and personnel entering Cannon AFB are subject to search. Prior to the general public entering the airshow, all personnel will have to go through a Security Checkpoint facilitated by our 27th Special Operations Security Forces Squadron. All personnel will need to go through metal detectors and belongings will be searched prior to the entering to ensure everyone’s safety. During Wings Over Cannon, our Security Forces will be patrolling and monitoring the area. Additionally, there are multiple First Aid Stations available in case anyone has a medical need. First responders will be on standby! 
  • Can I bring a camera?
    • Yes, visitors are allowed to bring their own camera or use their mobile phones to take pictures and videos.
  • Is smoking allowed?
    • No, Wings Over Cannon is a smoke-free event.
  • Should I bring hearing protection?
    • Bringing your own hearing protection is highly recommended especially for young children.
  • Is there a weather back-up plan?
    • Sunday, April 23, is reserved as a weather back-up day for Wings Over Cannon.
  • Will there be seating available?
    • Cannon Air Force Base is providing a couple bleachers for visitors; however, it is recommended that visitors bring their own lawn chairs as seating may be limited.
  • Will there be handicapped parking available?
    • Yes, there will be designed portions of the parking lots of properly tagged handicapped vehicles.
  • Is Tailgating allowed?
    • No, parking lots are reserved for transiting to and from the show only.
  • Do I need a military ID?
    • No, this event is open to the public. DoD ID holders will be allowed to enter through the Portales Gate, while general public must enter through the Main Gate.
  • Will I be able to leave and return from the show?
    • Yes, however you will have to process through the security checkpoint again. Please note that inbound traffic to the main gate will end at 3:00 p.m. The only inbound traffic allowed through the main gate past 3:00 p.m. will be individuals with a valid DoD ID.
  • Do the food and souvenir vendors take cards?
    • Most of the vendors will accept major credit cards. ATMs will also be available. 
  • Will there be restrooms and facilities at the show?
    • Yes, portable restrooms will be located throughout the event, including handicapped-accessible units. Handwashing and sanitization stations will also be available, as well as a nursing station. There will also be free water bottles made available to attendees.
  • Will there be any shade?
    • The open flight line offers no shade, however, there are areas such as the STEM hangar that will provide a break from the sun.
  • Will there be anything for young children to do there?
    • Yes! Not only is there a Kid's Zone filled with fun activities, but there will also be a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Hangar packed with interactive booths and entertaining activities.
  • How much does the Kid's Zone cost?
    • It will be $10 for a day pass or $5 for single entry. Tickets to the Kid's Zone will be made available day of the Airshow on Saturday, April 22.
  • Will there be any medical services provided?
    • First aid will be available to treat minor ailments such as dehydration, minor cuts, bruises, and applications of emergency medications (such as Epi-pens). On-site medical personnel will stabilize and coordinate transportation to higher level of care for all other injuries and illnesses.
  • Is there special access for DOD ID cardholders?
    • On the day of the airshow, the right lane to the main gate will be reserved for DoD ID cardholders only. The Portales gate will also be open to DoD ID cardholders and is the recommended gate for cardholders to ease main gate traffic. There will be designated parking available off Chindit Blvd, however, DoD ID cardholders can park anywhere on base expect for the Cannon Fire Department, Security Forces, and Airfield Operations parking lots. Additionally, the airshow entry control point for all DoD ID cardholders will be next to the Cannon AFB Fire Department.  
  • Can I leave my bag/chair/stuff unattended while I walk around the airshow?
    • No. For both safety and security, do not leave any personal items unattended. If something is lost, please visit the lost and found area next to the Fire Department.
