CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- The 27th Special Operations Wing hosted a Spouse’s Day event for military servicemember dependents at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., Apr. 27, 2019.
The spouses explored different work environments and received an inside look on how day-to-day operations work at some units.
One of the units they explored was the 27th Special Operations Support Squadron’s Air Traffic Control Tower.
“The tower tour was really cool because I watch planes fly over all the time, but it’s good to have a close-up view to see how they’re all communicating together,” said Jennifer Koostra, military spouse. “As a key spouse, I’m glad they offered Spouse’s Day because it gives you a sense of pride of what you’re a part of.”
They’re a part of the growing community of approximately 5,800 Air Commandos at Cannon. The base has multiple aircraft types operating at all times, including the MC-130J Commando II, the AC-130W Stinger II and the CV-22 Osprey. Spouses were given a taste of what some of these aircraft can do when they flew aboard them.
“We flew on the CV-22,” said Sairy Lopez. “I got to experience what others can’t. Felt like my heart was about to drop.”
Spouse’s Day remains an important annual occurrence for the 27th SOW, as it allows the wing to display not only the capabilities of the hard-working Airmen and technology available, but how military families play a role in making it all happen.
