  • Published
Every week an Airman is chosen to be the Warrior of the Week. WoW's are Ali Base's finest Airmen, an example to others on how to optimize our core values. This week's WoW is Airman 1st Class Shakera Elrington.

Name: Airman 1st Class Shakera Elrington
Job Title: Hot Spot front desk representative
Deployed Unit: 407 Expeditionary Force Support Squadron
Homebase: Cannon AFB, N.M.
Hometown: Las Vegas, Nev.

Hobbies:
"Volunteering with children, shopping, reading, dancing and watching movies."

Who and what inspires you?
"My Aunt Estelle has inspired me because she strives to do well and change things for the better. She came to America and joined the Army Reserves for the same reasons I joined the United States Air Force. The Army helped her pay for nursing school and now she has her Bachelors Degree in Nursing. I know that I am able to complete my goals because my Aunt and many others tell me, guide me and inspire me."

What is your most memorable Air Force experience?
"My most memorable Air Force experience was winning Airman of the Quarter for the Group for the first quarter this year."

Why did you join the Air Force?
"I joined the Air Force to experience new things and make a wonderful example for my siblings and family. I am the oldest child in my family so it is up to me to pave the way. I will make this experience the best I possibly can. I also joined the military so that I may attain my educational goals. The military isn't only a job for me, it is a lifestyle. I plan to use the wonderful resources that are provided to me to better the military for future Airmen and warriors alike.

Supervisor says:
Airman 1st Class Elrington was selected because of her hard work and dedication to the facility, our squadron and the Air Expeditionary Group. She is an active member of the base Honor Guard. She performed two functions this week alone; first she performed the reveille ceremony June 26, second she performed July 1, at the re-designation ceremony from services to force support.

She was coined by the group superintendent Chief Master Sgt. Hughes and is a staple on the First Four private organization where she serves as our unit representative. She has attended every Professional Development Seminar since her arrival and helped Master Sgt. Davidson develop his presentation on the Fitness Program June 28. At work she is known for her outstanding professionalism as she services over 200 customers nightly. Lastly, she is credited for developing the "Who's Sizzling" board in the Hot Spot. This product displays the winner of the previous night's special events. It is a big hit among customers. Airman 1st Class Elrington is well deserving and clearly our choice for Warrior of the Week.
