CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. --
Beginning November 1, everybody who has an identification card to allow them access to the base will have to be registered in the Defense Biometrics Identification System to gain entrance.
Anyone who is not registered on that date will be directed to the Visitor Control Center for registration, prior to entering the base. Everyone, to include civil service civilians, contractors and visitors, will be required to register. No registration is required for children who do not possess an ID.
There is still time to register at your own convenience, before November 1.
DBIDS is an electronic verification tool designed to easily verify the access authorization of individuals entering military installations. This provides for a more secure installation. It uses barcode technology already on all military issued ID cards. DBIDS registration has been ongoing since last year.
The following are the locations and times for registration.
-Main Gate Visitor Control Center -
Monday through Wednesday - 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.;
Thursday - 7:30 a.m. to midnight;
Friday - 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- The Atrium of the base clinic - 7:30 a.m. - 4:30, Monday through Friday
- At the base commissary, next to aisle 1 - 11: a.m. - 7 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday
The VCC is the primary registration station for contractors and visitors. The base clinic and Commissary are the primary registration stations for active duty military, retirees and their dependents. After November 1, all registration will be consolidated at the VCC.
The process usually takes 5-10 minutes depending on the number of individuals waiting to register. Registrants must bring their active duty, contractor, dependent, or retired ID card or, driver's license and Social Security Card (if not active duty) when registering.
