CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- The Air Force Assistance Fund campaign is currently underway here and will go through April 29.

This year’s theme, “Commitment to Caring,” hopes to perpetuate the ongoing efforts of Airmen assisting Airmen through various charities such as the Air Force Aid Society, Air Force Villages Charitable Foundation, Air Force Enlisted Village, and the General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation.

What is the AFAF campaign? It is an annual on-the-job fundraising appeal conducted among Air Force personnel for the direct benefit of other Air Force members.

“The Air Force Assistance Fund is an outstanding way for our members to help take care of our extended Air Force family during times of need,” said Master Sgt. Francesca Seehausen, 27th Special Operations Aerospace Medicine Squadron dental flight superintendent and AFAF project officer. “This campaign is one of the ways Airmen can guarantee their donations will directly benefit wingmen and other Air Force families.”

In 2015, the AFAF helped 361 Airmen with more than $219,000 in assistance funds. Last year, Cannon Air Commandos helped raise more than $63,700 – these charitable donations directly aided members of the Air Force through services such as grants and loans. Cannon officials hope to raise more than $95,000 during this year’s campaign.

“All of our groups and squadrons have designated volunteers able to facilitate donations across the wing,” said Capt. Dustin Tanen, 16th Special Operations Squadron pilot and AFAF project officer. “These volunteers have all the necessary knowledge and paperwork to assist our Air Commandos in selflessly helping other Air Force families through these important contributions. My personal goal is that every military member knows what the AFAF is, how they can give and most importantly, why they should.”

Anyone is able to make donations to the AFAF by cash, check or money order. Active-duty service members and retired military personnel are also able to have funds donated via the payroll deduction program.

Both project officers encourage everyone to donate what they are able, reminding Air Commandos that this directly promotes the wingman concept.
