CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- The 27th Special Operations Wing offers their condolences to the family of Lt. Gen. Donald Peterson, Cannon Air Force Base Commander from 1988-1990, who passed away July 3.
According to his most recent Air Force biography, Peterson served for 35 years, earning the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Distinguished Flying Cross over the course of his career.
He "continued after retirement to advocate on behalf of the men and women of the Air Force as president of the Air Force Association," according to an obituary published in the Washington Post.
Peterson's funeral service and internment are slated to take place at Arlington National Cemetery. The date of the events will be announced at a later date, according to the obituary.
