Cannon Air Commandos are collecting toys and gifts to donate towards a drive for children for the 2017 holiday season.

The drive is hosted by the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home in Portales, and ends Dec. 1.

Approximately 130 children from the local area are on the list of recipients of the drive. Military members can donate gifts by visiting Senior Airman Kaelyn Huff, 27th Special Operations Maintenance Squadron administrative technician.

“If someone is interested in donating, they come to me and choose a child to donate to,” Huff said.

From there, donors are given the child’s information and their wish list. Donors purchase gifts, and the rest is taken care of by Huff and the Airmen running Cannon’s participation in the donation.

“Once we collect all the gifts, we bring them to the children’s home,” Huff explained.

The kids then put on a play for the visitors and those who donated, a happy ending to a fun experience overall, Huff said.

“This is an amazing drive, and it makes me smile knowing that we can make a difference in these children’s lives.”
