Cannon newcomers can tour Clovis for free

A free monthly bus tour around Clovis is available to Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico, members Feb. 28, 2018 at the Airman & Family Readiness Center.

The tours are meant to show new members of the Cannon team what is available in the surrounding area, important locations and give them opportunities to interact with the community.

“The stops are about letting people know about the history of Clovis,” said Martha Weston, AFRC community readiness consultant. “We show them necessary places like the hospital so they know where those are, and some more fun places so they know where to go if they want something to do.”

The tour begins at 7:45 a.m. and ends at approximately 1:15 p.m. Lunch is provided by a local veteran organizations. Tours are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month, with a maximum of 50 participants per tour.

Children that are required use a car seat are not allowed to come on the trip due to safety standards.

Participants are advised to wear casual clothing and be comfortable with getting a bit dirty. One of the stops includes the local dairy farm where people are able to interact with the farmers and their livestock.

The dairy farm is only one of the stops. Other stops include the local medical center, sports complex and mall.

“In the end, it’s all about getting the people of Cannon integrated into the Clovis community,” Weston said.
