CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- The Order of Daedalians Maj. Gen. Warren R. Carter Logistics Readiness Award was presented to Maj. Lucas Choate, 27th Special Operations Logistics Readiness Squadron Commander, by retired Lt. Gen. Nicholas Kehoe at Cannon Air Force Base, August 15.
The Daedalian award was given to the 27th SOLRS for having the most effective base-level logistics readiness program in the United States Air Force during 2017.
During the 2017 fiscal year, the 27th SOLRS accumulated a record of achievements across a broad range of essential logistics support services, both in-garrison and deployed in support of combat areas. They guided 3,800 Air Commandos to eight areas of responsibility while also managing 334,000 critical mobility assets and 720 alert requirements supporting 17 forward operating bases. These tasks were performed while operating 75 percent of the command’s forward-area refueling missions and 71 percent of the aerial delivery workload. Air Commandos from the 27th SOLRS delivered 26 million gallons of fuel to 5,000 aircraft in direct combat operations.
The 27th SOLRS has 48 other awards received by the squadron and personnel. They received four recognitions from the Air Force Special Operations Command, 12 from the 27th Special Operations Wing, 28 deployed awards, and four Airmen received below-the-zone promotions.
Now, the squadron has its 49th award that designates them as the top logistics readiness squadron in the Air Force. The last time that a logistics readiness squadron at Cannon AFB received the Daedalian award was in 1968. The 82nd Supply Squadron, 50 years ago, received the award.
The Daedalian award was first presented in 1962, and is presented to the squadron that achieves the best supply effectiveness record in support of mission aircraft and weapons Air Force-wide.
“I truly believed this was the best LRS in the Air Force and I saw it in the Airmen every day, but I wanted them to believe it themselves and this award did that,” said Maj. Lucas Choate, 27th Special Operations Logistics Readiness Squadron commander. “Our squadron's motto is ‘Anything… Anywhere… Anytime’ and it has become a part of our culture to provide unrivaled logistics support from a premier installation to launch specialized airpower at a moment's notice.”
