What's new with PLAYPass? Published July 12, 2013 By Senior Airman Alexxis Pons Abascal 27th Special Operations Wing Public Affairs 27th Special Operations Wing Public Affairs -- The Air Force program that gives deployment-affected families and single Airmen stationed at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., the eligibility to receive more than $500 in free or discounted services will be extended through Dec. 31, 2015. Installations are given PLAYPass discount cards for distribution to those affected by a deployment or TDY lasting 30 days or more. In addition to allowing family members to connect with individuals enduring similar hardships, the program also provides an opportunity for a war-weary force to reintegrate into their communities by participating in social, recreational and educational programs. The extension to the program isn't the only change Air Commandos at the 27th Special Operations Wing will see. Two family PLAYPass cards will now be issued to those that meet eligibility requirements; the first card will be issued when a member is deployed or on a remote assignment, the second card will be issued upon return and be valid for 90 days from their return date. New card denominations may also be used by attrition: 20 blocks worth $25 each. Each card is valued at $500, allowing the family up to $1,000 to utilize toward Morale Welfare Recreation-focused social, recreational, fitness and learning programs. Much like a coupon book, the pass card is preprinted with specific value blocks that are applicable to corresponding programs, only now members can use multiple blocks at one time. Youth cards will eventually be phased out, but those cards already in customers' hands will continue to be honored until expiration. No cash refunds are given for any unused portion of a coupon block and the pass is not valid for food, beverages or merchandise. The PLAYPass can be redeemed at both pre-deployment and reintegration briefings. Spouses of deployed or TDY members can collect their passes at any time.
