Dust off the microphone and warm up those vocal cords because auditions are now being accepted for the 2013 Cannon Idol competition at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M.

Cannon Idol is a three round singing competition. The selected vocalists will perform a fast song and slow song in the first two rounds. The top three singers then make it to the third and final round where they perform a song of their choice. Prizes will be awarded to the top three contestants.

"Contestants can stop by the Community Center and have their auditions taped," said Brett Weekley, 27th Special Operations Force Support Squadron. "They can also make a 30 second video and email it to the Community Center or burn it to a disc and deliver it in person."

Audition pieces should be sung acappella and must be submitted no later than June 30. Singers who make it into the competition will be notified in early July. Cannon Idol will be held July 27 at the Landing Zone.

"Cannon Idol is not only a competition, but a great program that can keep you connected with other talented singers," said Senior Airman Jennifer Edwards, 27th Special Operations Medical Support Squadron unit deployment manager and winner of the 2010 Cannon Idol. "Nothing beats making friends that have the same interests, like singing. The friendships you make become the big prize in the end - though winning first doesn't hurt either."
