Whether a novice or professional vocalist on the big stage at the Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., Community Center, free Karaoke Friday Night awoke the innermost performer in each active audience member, May 17.

The event included a professional-grade karaoke system, home theater seats, large bean bag chairs, sofas to relax on, a wide song selection, and a friendly staff available to assist singers.

Air Commandos and Department of Defense civilians enthusiastically gathered around as they looked into the song books to pick a song they would sing, belt, or just plain-old perform.

One such Air Commando was Tech. Sgt. Candice Fagan, 56th Special Operations Intelligence Squadron mission coordinator.

"I love singing karaoke at the Community Center; it gives me the chance to keep doing what I love despite my ever-changing schedule," Fagan exclaimed.

Fagan was one of many attendees having a blast as she gripped the microphone, stared at the lyrics on the screen and let all inhibition float away with the notes as she sang.

Getting ready to sing and knowing their turn was fast approaching, attendees laughed as they anticipated their bout of impending entertainment with reluctant enthusiasm.

"The Community Center staff is formally trained on how to use and operate our karaoke system," said Paul Hopkins, 27th Special Operations Force Support Squadron Community Center manager. "Because our staff members are so familiar with the system, one person can have it up and running in minutes."

Karaoke Friday Nights is offered weekly from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. Come out and enjoy the lounge-like, relaxed atmosphere at the Community Center, located on the second floor of the Drop Zone building.
