Members of the 27th Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron gathered to show support for their fellow first responders at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., May 14.

Fire fighters set aside their gear and demonstrated culinary prowess as they graciously barbequed for members of the 27th Special Operations Security Forces Squadron in honor of National Police Week.

According to Master Sgt. Jason Shaffer, 27 SOSFS, the gesture is returned to firefighters on behalf of security forces during National Fire Prevention Week, which is recognized in October.
"This is all about building camaraderie; it gives us a chance to meet and greet some of the people we work with most," said Staff Sgt. Kamil Sheaib, 27 SOCES fire protection. "Security forces play such an instrumental role in our line of work. They are the ones making sure the scene is safe prior to our arrival. In the end, we are all one team and this type of event is just a small token of appreciation."
