The 27th Special Operations Wing hosted the annual Safety Fair at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., April 1.

Contractors from various organizations worked alongside Cannon personnel to educate Air Commandos on ways to stay safe this spring. Airmen had a chance to participate in a drunk-driving course; sign up for motorcycle safety classes and put out simulated fires.

"For Cannon, I feel like this gives us an opportunity to touch on things that are concerning from a safety perspective," said Lt. Col. Christopher Berg, 27th Special Operations Wing Safety chief. "By bringing these Airmen to the safety fair on an annual basis, it also gives Airmen an opportunity to look at safety aspects in their respective workspaces by seeing some of the equipment and programs that are available for them whether it is on or off duty."

During the fair, many had the opportunity to see what it's like to drive under the influence of alcohol, including Lt. Col. Marcus Brazell, 727th Special Operations Aircraft Maintenance Squadron commander.

"The drunk-driving course was entertaining, however, it proved to be quite challenging," he said. "I experienced firsthand how difficult it is to drive a vehicle impaired."

Base programs keep making numerous contributions to keep Cannon's Air Commandos safe.

"The Cannon populace has done a great job keeping each other safe over the last few years," Berg added. "There is value in the wingman programs that we have on base from the Airmen Against Drunk Driving to Knock it Off. Those programs are in place to assist the Airmen in being safe, which makes for a better Cannon."
