Cannon airpark to relocate Published Jan. 25, 2013 By Desiree Ann Montenegro 27th Special Operations Wing Public Affairs CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- The 27th Special Operations Wing historic airpark at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M. is scheduled to be relocated. Several non-operative aircraft will be restationed throughout the base as part of a two phase process. The F-111 & F-100 are scheduled to be moved on Feb. 19th. The F-16 will be placed along Eagle Claw Boulevard just north of the Housing Office. Moreover, the EF-111 aircraft will be moved to the triangular, grassy area at the entrance of Joe Cannon Estates. The move, date and location for the remaining aircraft in the park are yet to be determined. There are many aspects to consider with respect to the Cannon airpark relocation. Two significant changes it will bring to the base include a new layout for the front gate entrance to Cannon and a new location for its legacy airframes. Safety is always a top priority at Cannon during times of construction. Some precautions that the Cannon populace should consider include: Personnel safety, both with individuals involved in the actual movement and personnel operating privately owned vehicles that may pass by during the operation. Traffic delays, hopefully, will be kept to a minimum as the removal and transportation will take place between the morning and afternoon rush hours. Privately owned vehicle driver's patience is a must! This will be a delicate operation requiring precision on behalf of those involved in the operation and must not be rushed by impatient POV traffic. Rick Shea, 27th Special Operations Wing Historian added that all the planning that has gone into the airpark relocation has been a monumental undertaking.
