The Stripes for Exceptional Performers program is extremely competitive. Only the best Airmen are selected each year for promotion outside of the normal testing cycle. Out of 731 eligible technical sergeants in Air Force Special Operations Command, only two master sergeant ranks were allotted for 2012.

Tech. Sgt. Byron Pruitt, 27th Special Operations Maintenance Squadron lead weapons expediter, was notified by leadership from Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., Dec. 4., that he was chosen to receive the STEP promotion.

Hand-selected by Lt. Gen. Eric Fiel, AFSOC commander, Pruitt was picked because of his outstanding record of service.

"Pruitt did not just have a good year - he has had an exceptional career of consistent leadership and excellence," said Chief Master Sgt. Paul Henderson, 27th Special Operations Wing command chief. "We are proud of him and know that he will continue to serve as a senior NCO with the same outstanding leadership ethos."
