AFSOC command chief visits Cannon

CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. --  The 27th Special Operations Wing welcomed Chief Master Sgt. William Turner, Air Force Special Operations Command command chief, during his visit to Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., Nov. 26 thru 29.

Turner, who was previously command chief for the 27 SOW, made a special visit to the western home of Air Commandos to visit several squadrons and professional organizations and met with the 27th Special Operations Wing's junior enlisted Airmen. Turner took time to offer advice, answer questions and discuss where the AFSOC mission is headed in the near future.

"When I was a junior enlisted Airman, it was rare that we saw or even interacted with chiefs," said Turner. "In order to aid in preventing suicides, sexual assaults and boost morale among our wingmen, SNCOs need to take a more active role to include ourselves in the daily lives of our peers and subordinates."

Accompanied by Chief Master Sgt. Paul Henderson, 27th Special Operations Wing command chief, the AFSOC command chief made time to speak with current students of Cannon's Airman Leadership School.

"The Airman Leadership School is the most important professional military education course that the Air Force offers," Turner said. "The ALS provides students with an essential foundation of leadership skills to aid them in the transition from the Airman to the NCO tier."

Emphasis was placed on Air Commandos remaining optimistic to help boost morale among their peers and having the knowledge and understanding of how their specific career field directly or indirectly affects AFSOC's overall mission.

"The mission at Cannon makes it a great place for young Airmen to grow and develop," Turner said. "Every single Airman matters and they are all making a difference. Their main goal should be to make things better for every Airman that comes after them."
