Street restructuring to continue at Cannon

CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. --  Air Commandos at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., can expect more street name changes in the coming weeks as an initiative by 27th Special Operations Wing leadership picks up momentum.

The changes are intended to highlight special operations heritage associated with Cannon's current mission, while paying homage to military pioneers, fallen heroes and community leaders for the sacrifices and contributions they've made.

Changes already enacted at Cannon, such as the renaming of Torch Boulevard to Chindit Boulevard, reflect leadership's desire to instill a sense of pride and history in Air Commandos stationed at the 27 SOW. Three additional north/south streets are scheduled to follow suit, adopting names depicting the evolution of Air Force Special Operations.

Similar to the recent memorialization of Albright Avenue, named in honor of Airman 1st Class Richard Albright, seven east/west streets will feature the names of fallen heroes and pioneers ranging from World War II to the current fight in Afghanistan.

The next set of changes is slated to take place in Cannon's privatized housing area and will highlight modern special operations missions, while streets on Cannon's south side will receive monikers mirroring special operations aircraft.

Airmen and civilians who frequent the base are asked to exercise patience as this initiative to fuse past legacy and present potential comes to fruition.

The following is a complete list of scheduled street name changes:

· Octagon Avenue - Levitow Avenue
· Trident Avenue - Albright Avenue
· Sextant Avenue - Alison Avenue
· Arcadia Avenue - Cochran Avenue
· Eureka Avenue - Cunningham Avenue
· Casablanca Avenue - D.L. Ingram Avenue (new location)
· Perimeter Road - Aderholt Loop
· Olympic Boulevard - Eagle Claw Avenue
· D.L. Ingram Boulevard (old location) - Air Commando Way
· Torch Boulevard - Chindit Boulevard
