Texas Tech University hosted a Veteran's Day Military Appreciation Day to honor the men and women who have served and are currently serving America's armed forces. All branches of service were invited to attend a free football game in Lubbock, Texas, as the Texas Tech Red Raiders took on the University of Kansas Jayhawks, Nov. 10.

More than 500 service members with the 27th Special Operations Wing at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., ventured to their neighboring state to show gratitude for recognition received for their service and enjoy some good old college football.

To kick-off the game in classic military fashion, the 27 SOW provided several Air Commandos to sing the national anthem along with an MC-130J Commando II and CV-22 Osprey to fly over the stadium.

The university band recognized all branches of service separately during half-time while playing service specific songs and executing unique band formations.

"It was both humbling and inspiring to look into the stadium and not just see, but feel all the support," said Master Sgt. Edison Kim, 27 SOW Inspector General superintendent. "It was an honor and privilege to represent our installation and the Air Force at this event. Stepping onto the field and singing our national anthem - it was truly moving."
