"There's a place for us" is the bark song emanating from Cannon Air force Base, N.M. Yes, that's right, man's best friend now has a park designated and specifically designed for them and their loyal owners.

After many requests the 27th Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron completed construction on a new Dog Park at Cannon. For those who are interested in visiting the new Dog Park, it is located behind the golf course next to the softball fields and housing maintenance.

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, Part of responsible pet ownership is providing appropriate exercise and socialization.

All personnel with access to the base also have access to the Dog Park. However, in order to keep the Dog Park open, responsibility as well as accountability is expected from everyone. Leadership has verbalized that the park needs to be kept clean or it may close as quickly as it was opened. So everyone must make sure to help maintain the park when visiting.

Dogs that display aggressive behavior may pose a danger to others and therefore may not be allowed in to the dog park. Keep dogs on a leash while traveling to and from the park. The Dog Park will be open 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

There will be clean stations throughout the park to clean up after dogs. Make sure to always take waste bags in case the stations run out of supplies, as owners are expected to clean up after you their pets.
