Donating time, lending a hand

CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. --  Members with Cannon's 5/6ers club from Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., came out for a beautification project at Green Acres Park in Clovis, N.M., Sept. 15.

The objective of the volunteer project was to revamp the color of the park to give it a more modern aesthetic and remove graffiti from playground equipment and other facilities.

"We removed paint from the playground, repainted picnic areas, tables, benches and other areas in need of a face-lift," said Staff Sgt. Fernando Gutierrez, 27th Special Operations Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and Cannon's 5/6ers president. "We also conducted a trash clean-up around the park, gathering a substantial amount of debris."

Clovis Parks and Recreations provided the Cannon volunteers with paint, brushes, protective work gear and refreshments for their efforts within the community.

"We wanted to enhance the experience of our personnel and families of the Clovis community within the city's park," he said. "Green Acres Park was our first choice because of its centralized location."

Despite the size of the park, Airmen covered all grounds in their effort to create a more comfortable atmosphere for locals to enjoy.

"Our highly motivated and dedicated NCOs continue to come together as a team to make a positive impact within our community," he added. "We hope to keep getting involved because the areas that surround Cannon are part of our home and there are always opportunities to make things better."
