Permanent road closure: Octagon Ave. at D. L. Ingram Blvd. Published Feb. 16, 2012 By Emily Crowe 27th Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- As part of upcoming construction on the northwest side of Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., Octagon Ave. will permanently become a dead end at D. L. Ingram Blvd. on Feb. 17. This road closure is the first step in the construction of two new facilities and associated parking in the empty lots to either side. "This is the first step in creating an antiterrorism or force protection compliant campus area that is safe for pedestrians moving between buildings," said Stephen Whalen, 27th Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron chief of project management. "It will eventually encompass the area between the flight simulators, a new squadron operations building and the new communications building." Drivers should be aware that after Friday, Feb. 17, access to Octagon Ave. will only be available from S. Torch Blvd.
