On Feb. 14, the 27th Special Operations Wing held an exercise to test its capability to handle two separate accidents without the need of off-base support.

The first simulated accident was an aircraft ran off the end of the runway that resulted in a small fire at Melrose Air Force Range. The second incident followed shortly thereafter and involved a ground mishap on the flightline where a truck collided with a parked MC-130J Commando II resulting in a major fuel spill.

Both accidents involved simulated injuries that required medical support.

"Col. Elton wanted to test base personnel's internal capability of responding to two simultaneous incidents on base," said Maj. Steven Kohut, 27 SOW inspector general. "All base agencies responded exceptionally and overall the exercise was a huge success."
