CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Col. Buck Elton, 27th Special Operations Wing commander, presented two Airmen from Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., with an unexpected STEP, or Stripes for Exceptional Performers, promotion, Dec. 22.

Tech. Sgt. Ernest Revell, 27th Special Operations Security Forces Squadron NCO in charge of operations staff support, was awarded a promotion to Master Sgt. Staff Sgt. Justin Hunter, 3rd Special Operations Squadron standardization and evaluations, was raised to the rank of Tech. Sgt.

A limited number of STEP promotion slots are released each year throughout the Air Force. These promotions are used to promote outstanding individuals to staff, technical or master sergeant and are based on an individual's potential to serve at a higher rank.
