The Clovis community will recognize Cannon Air Force Base's Airmen and families at Unity Park August 12, 2011, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the 22nd annual Cannon Appreciation Day.

The event, which is sponsored by the Committee of Fifty, Clovis Industrial Development Corporation and Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce, will include a barbeque with free food and drinks until 2 p.m., music by Blue Thunder, fun family activities and games and thousands of dollars in raffle prize giveaways.

"This great event brings the Cannon and Clovis communities together," said Paul Hopkins, Cannon's community center manager. "The Cannon family is part of the Clovis family, and Cannon Appreciation Day celebrates this by bringing everyone together to have a good time."

"It's their way of making us feel included in the community and reminding us each year that they appreciate our sacrifices," he said.

Media personnel who would like to cover the event should contact 27th Special Operations Wing Public Affairs at 575-784-4131 or email public affairs no later than noon August 11.
