On May 21 sunshine streamed down onto the heads of the participants of the America's Kids Run held at Cannon Air Force Base. The run is the world's largest children's running event which coincides with Armed Forces Day activities in May each year. Cannon's event also fell in line with National Fitness Month.

Parents and children alike crowded onto the base track, eager to compete in the mornings events. The "run" consisted of three separate distances for kids-- a half mile, mile, and a two mile run, with how far determined by age groups. For adults there was a 5K race, an option to support their children by running with them, or the option to encourage them from the sidelines.

The event started with those running receiving t-shirts as a keepsake for what was for some youth their first "official" run. At the end of the event fresh fruits and vegetables were served to remind all that it's not just exercise that keeps people healthy it's eating right too, in all participants said it was a day filled with fun and fitness.
