Former Cannon base commander to receive first star

Former Cannon AFB commander and the first commander of the 27th Special Operations Wing, Col. Timothy J. Leahy, was nominated for promotion to brigadier general, according to an April 5 release from the Department of Defense.

Colonel Leahy was the wing commander of the 27th SOW from October 2007 to May 2009 when he led Cannon AFB in the transition from Air Combat Command to Air Force Special Operations Command.

Colonel Leahy currently serves as the Director of J7/9 at United States Special Operations Command in Tampa, Fla. He oversees doctrine, education, training, exercises, concept development, experimentation, war games, capabilities based assessments, and lessons learned for special operations forces.
