CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Col. Stephen Clark, 27th Special Operations Wing commander, presented Tech Sgt. Daniel Cruz of the 20th Special Operations Squadron with an unexpected STEP, or Stripes for Exceptional performers, promotion to master sergeant, Dec. 22 here.

A limited number of STEP promotion slots are released each year throughout the Air Force. These promotions are used to promote outstanding individuals to staff, technical or master sergeant and are based on an individual's potential to serve at a higher rank.
