The 56th Intelligence Squadron activated July 29, bringing to United States Special Operations Command focused and timely intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities for special operations forces worldwide.

Brig. Gen. George Williams, 23rd Air Force commander, presented the squadron colors to its first commander, Lt. Col. Lt. Col. Jeffrey Hinrichs, in ceremonies at Hangar 196, following the inactivation of the 11th Intelligence Squadron, Detachment 2, commanded by Maj. Connie Zicaro.

The squadron, a tenant unit here, enables SOF operations with specialized products derived from processing, exploitation and dissemination and fusion of full-motion video.
