Community notes Published June 25, 2010 CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Landing Zone to close; expect traffic delays Due to the Active Shooter exercise on July 7, The Landing Zone will be closed. First responders will use it from about 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Also, there could be traffic delays through both gates during this time, Closed for vacation The Frame and Engraving shop will be closed on July 1-9, because the framer will be on leave. If you have gifts that need framed for presentation during this time period, bring them in now so they can be ready in time for presentation. Items will be available for pickup through the auto shop. To make arrangement for pickup, call the auto shop at 784-4735. Early Independence Day celebration Free food, fun and prizes on July 2 at The Landing Zone, from noon to 4 p.m. will signal an early start to July 4th fun. Everyone at Cannon is invited. Sesame Street /USO bring Elmo and friends to Cannon The Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families traveling show will perform at the Fitness Center at Cannon July 14-15. There will be a free show with giveaways on July 14, starting at 3 p.m., and two more shows on July 15, at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Doors will open 30 minutes before the performance. Air Commando family retreat registration under way Cannon Chapel is hosting an Air Commando Family Retreat on July 9-11 at Glorieta Conference Center at Santa Fe, NM. This free event, but registrations are based upon first come, first served. Registration is open for all Active Duty, Guard, Reserve and their family members. Operation KUDOS signups begin Operation KUDOS, a deployment education tool for children at Cannon, will take place July 10, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Early registration is required for this event that is open for children ages 5-15. Children will be "recalled" and told to report to the base chapel where they will be processed through a deployment line. The children will then move to a hangar where they will learn more about the process and have an opportunity to eat MREs, try on chemical gear and other activities. They will also receive identification or "dog" tags, t-shirts and a deployment bag. Call the Airman & Family Readiness Center at 784-4228 to register or for more information.
