Base recognizes law enforcement contributions with week of activities

The 27th Special Operations Wing will celebrate National Police Week beginning May 15 to honor all law enforcement officers for the challenges they face and the losses they endure. The 27th Special Operations Security Forces Squadron has scheduled a week of fun, fundraisers and displays to increase public awareness of the contributions of America's law enforcers.

Schedule of events
May 8
- Annual Motorcycle Rally
Lunch, raffles and more, beginning at 10 a.m. at High Plains Harley Davidson in Clovis, N.M. Registration is $15 per person, $20 a couple and all proceeds will go to National Fraternal Order of Police. Contact Ed Cramer at 784-2011.

May 10 - Defender Rodeo
27 SOSFS teams will compete to see which one is the best starting at 8 a.m. with a rucksack march starting at the rock quarry. Memory Test, weapons test and more at Combat Arms beginning at 9 a.m.

May 11 - Jail and Bail
Send someone from your squadron to "jail" for 50 cents per minute. The mock jail will be in the fitness center parking lot from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Contact Tech. Sgt. Jason Rush or Staff Sgt. Amy Case at 784-4035.

May 12 - Security Forces display
Beginning at 9 a.m. at the North Plains Mall, there will be Military Working Dog demonstrations, tours of the mobile command trailer and children can be fingerprinted, which will be provided to their parents. Civilian police agencies will also have law enforcement displays.

May 13 - Police Week Pistol Shoot
The first relay begins at 9 a.m., and the last relay begins at 3:30 at the Patriot Outdoors, the alternate Cannon Combat Arms Range. This is a .45 caliber and smaller pistol shoot only. Contact Staff Sgt. Brandon Miller at 784- 2820.

May 14 - Golf Tournament
A shotgun start begins at 9 a.m. at the Whispering Winds Gold Course. Contact Scott Biekola at 784-4449.

May 14 - Memorial ceremony
A memorial ceremony for fallen peace officers will be held at Bldg. 1 at 4:30 p.m.

May 15 - Flag football tournament
Games begin at 8 a.m. on the field adjacent to the fitness center. An unlimited number of teams can enter. Contact Staff Sgt. David Mayerck at 784-1608.
