Airmen from the 27th Special Operations Wing put their combat readiness to the test as they were among the first responders to the earthquake that rocked Haiti Jan12.

"The men and women of the 27th Special Operations Wing are well-trained and equipped for these types of situations, and it shows," said 27 SOW Commander Col. Stephen Clark.

Two MC-130 Combat Spear aircraft from the 73rd Special Operations Squadron and support personnel from across the 27 SOW deployed Jan. 13, ready to provide the much needed support.

The aircraft and personnel are providing much needed support and working side by side with Haiti and international organizations; Air Force Special Operations Command is assisting a larger United States effort to provide lifesaving support. In addition to the Air Force, U.S. military relief efforts are also being provided by the Coast Guard, Navy and Army.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this tragedy," he continued. "The 27 SOW is postured to respond to worldwide contingencies at a moment's notice and will remain available until it is determined our assistance is no longer necessary.
