Airmen to take citizenship oath

The Cannon public is invited to attend ceremonies for five  Airmen who will raise their right hands at  2 p.m. on July 20 at The Landing -  the final step to becoming naturalized American citizens. 

Taking the oath of citizenship will be Airmen 1st Class Rafael Jamandre, Aung Soe, Addisu Yifru and Yetbark Berhe, all assigned to the 27th Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron and Airman 1st Class Michael Lazarus, 27th Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron. 

Administering the oath of citizenship will be Elizabeth Lee, the field office director for the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services office in Albuquerque, N.M. Col. Stephen Clark, 27th Special Operations Wing commander, as well as other members of wing leadership will also be in attendance.

Individuals must normally wait five years before applying to become a U.S. citizen, but if they are serving in the Armed Forces, the initial application can be made in one year during time of conflict.
