Cannon to host Med Ops Flight mission familiarization April 1 Published March 30, 2009 Staff report CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Cannon Air Force Base will host a 27th Special Operations Squadron Medical Operations Flight mission familiarization event in April 1, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Those attending will include senior medical administrators from Clovis and Portales hospitals. The event includes a luncheon with a mission briefing, followed by a demonstration of a casualty evacuations exercise on board an MC-130W Combat Spear . The 27th OSM provides operational medical support and plans and trains for combat medical operations. Airmen in the unit provide initial stabilization of combat trauma casualties; initial management of mass casualty situations; casualty evacuation of injured and ill personnel; medical support for humanitarian operations; noncombatant evacuation operations; and other unique special operations taskings. The unit stood up at Cannon in June, 2008, and consists of 14 Airmen--10 medically trained individuals and a support staff of four. The flight is one of only four of its kind in the U.S. Air Force. The unit is hosting senior medical administrators from Plains Regional Hospital in Clovis and Roosevelt Hospital in Portales.
