Keep safe this holiday season

During the holiday season, crime can increase. In the last few weeks, there have been increases in property crimes (i.e., vehicle and home burglaries) in the Clovis area. The majority of these activities were "crimes of opportunity" due to victims presenting an easy target for thieves.

Here are a few things to remember:

1. Ensure you lock doors to your vehicles and homes, even for short periods of time. Secure your personal property. Do not leave it unattended and/or unsecured outside, especially overnight.

2. Do not leave valuables (i.e., purses, wallets, firearms and gifts) in your vehicles when out shopping at the local mall or merchant stores.

3. Secure gift purchases in the trunk or covered area of your vehicle out of sight. Make trips home to secure high value gifts.

4. With the weather getting colder, don't leave your vehicle running outside unattended.

What can you do to help prevent yourself or a neighbor from becoming a statistic?

Answer: Become more vigilant and involved within your community. If you have questions about an individual in your neighborhood or want to report suspicious activity which does not seem right or seems out of place, call Security Forces at 784-4111. If you live off-base, please contact Clovis Police at 769-1921 or Curry County Sheriff's at 769-2335.
