Make a difference - volunteer Published Oct. 29, 2008 CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- The following list of volunteer opportunities have been provided by the Airman and Family Readiness Center: PORTALES THANKSGIVING MEAL Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, November 27, at the Memorial Building in Portales. The volunteers will help clean up and serve Thanksgiving meals to people in need. Please call the Airman & Family Readiness Center at 784-4228 for more information or to sign up. CLOVIS THANKSGIVING MEAL The Lighthouse Mission in Clovis needs people to volunteer Thanksgiving Day, November 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. They also need people to prepare the food and to clean up. Due to limited space, please call Richard Gomez at 762-1933 to sign up. SALVATION ARMY Volunteers are needed for the Salvation Army kettle drive. ANGELS IN BLUE Volunteers are needed to help deliver gifts to children at the Baptist Children's Home in Portales on December 13 at 2 p.m. Volunteers can meet up at the Airman & Family Readiness Center at 1:15 p.m. to caravan to the children's home or they can meet the group at the Children's Home at 2 p.m. If you would like to volunteer for this wonderful event, please call the Airman & Family Readiness Center at 784-4228 to register. FRATERNAL ORDER OF EAGLES ANNUAL CHRISTMAS SHOPPING SPREE FOR NEEDY CHILDREN The Fraternal Order of Eagles are looking for 30 to 40 volunteers December 21 at 5:30 a.m. to help underprivileged children shop for Christmas. The group will meet in the back of the Clovis Wal-mart (near Subway.) A free breakfast will be provided at the Fraternal Order of Eagles directly after the event. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY Habitat For Humanity needs volunteers on Saturday to help build a house at 309 East Kaywood in Portales. Work starts at 8 a.m. until mid afternoon. Volunteers are also needed to promote the program Saturday, November 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the mall. For more information, please call Habitat for Humanity at 575-359-1344. SPECIAL OLYMPICS Special Olympics bowling will continue until November 13. BASE CHAPEL The Base Chapel needs volunteers every Wednesday night from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Volunteers are needed to clean-up, wash dishes, sweep floors, stack chairs and put away folding tables. If you would like to participate, please contact the Chapel at 784-2507. ENRICHMENT PROGRAM Barry Elementary Enrichment Program needs volunteers to tutor students in the afternoon. The program is offered from noon to 3 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is also offered from 12:30 to 3 p.m. on Fridays. For more information, contact Sharon White at 575-799-5522. CODE BLUE UNIT-CITIZENS ON PATROL Volunteer opportunities are available with Code Blue. This program provides training by the Clovis Police Department to detect and effectively report crimes in progress. Trained members patrol in pairs, operate base stations and participate in the ride-along program with Clovis police officers.
