Fleet feet meet

CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. --  What better way to prove you are the fastest male or female than a friendly race? Cannon's fastest man and woman competition took place to give Airmen an opportunity to show off a little talent, and enjoy a competitive atmosphere. 

Airmen had a chance to compete in the following events: a four-person team mile relay, a100-yard dash, and a mile run. 

Ten individuals competed in the 100-yard dash, but only two would be awarded the title of the fastest man and woman. Airman Jared Snell, 27th Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron, was the fastest male with a time of 10.2 seconds, and Airman 1st Class Evelyn Chavez, 27th Special Operations Wing, taking the title for the women with a time of 13.2 seconds. 

Senior Airman Marc Hightower, 27th Special Operations Component Maintenance Squadron, finished the mile run with a time of 5 minutes and 48 seconds. 

"I decided to race because I like to run. I've never ran that fast before, but I just wanted to go out there and have fun," said Airman Hightower. 

Three teams competed in the four-person mile relay; the top team finished with a time of 4:07. Members of the team included Airman 1st Class Matthew Montoya, 27th Special Operation Equipment Maintenance Squadron. His teammates were Senior Airman Danny Perez, Airman 1st Class Alonzo Brown, and Airman Jared Snell, 27th SOCES. 

"We wanted a strong team so we decided to gather up a few good runners to make the competition a little more exciting," said Airman Montoya.
