27th SOLRS spouses put a little care in the mail Published July 10, 2008 By Greg Allen 27th Special Operations Wing Public Affairs CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Sunflower seeds, cookies or beef jerky may not seem important at home, but it's another story if you're deployed and these small pleasures are nowhere to be found. During such times, home just seems to be that much farther away. For about 80 Airmen assigned to 27th Special Operations Logistics Readiness Squadron, home seemed a little closer when they received their care packages, courtesy of the efforts of Key Spouses and volunteers who put the packages together. Amy Pata, wife of 27th SOLRS commander Maj. Robert Pata, said that the combined efforts of 10 Key Spouses and family members enabled them to get 30 packages packed with goodies in the mail for the deployed Airmen. "We had a lot of donations from commissary vendors, along with fundraisers like spaghetti dinners to get everything we needed," she said. "Individuals who deployed to places by themselves got a package. For those who went in a group, we sent one package to about every five people." She added that children at the Child Development Center provided artwork that was also included. "It's a great morale booster, and it keeps spouses connected," said Mrs. Pata. "Key spouses filled out all the customs forms, orchestrated fundraisers and worked to get everybody involved." She said the group plans to mail more packages in January.
