Because government-owned vehicles represent a significant investment for the Air Force, these authorizations must be revalidated periodically to ensure vehicle needs are being met as economically as possible.

To meet this goal, the Air Force Special Operations Command staff performs a complete Vehicle Validation Visit approximately every three years. Cannon AFB's VVV is tentatively scheduled during the second week in March.

The visit ensures that Cannon's vehicle fleet is correct for its mission. Key questions during the visit will include who is using the vehicle, what is the vehicle used for, and is it the right type and size for that function. Additional factors that can impact overall vehicle authorizations also include basic allowances for all Air Force installations, the wing's mission, a unit's primary mission, type and number of aircraft assigned, and base population.

To ensure Cannon has the vehicles it needs to accomplish its mission, units must fully justify its vehicle needs. Unit representatives must be able to address their unit's current mission and their short-term mission out to about two years. They must also be able to justify each assigned vehicle by its use to confirm that the type of vehicle is correct for that purpose, and to identify what part of the mission would suffer should a particular vehicle not be authorized.

The VVV is a unit's chance to ensure it has the vehicles necessary to accomplish the mission. Issues should be resolved through a unit's Vehicle Control Officer/NCO and the 27th Special Operations Logistics Readiness Squadron's Vehicle Management Flight.
