Yes, it's that time of year again: tax season.

However, completing and filing your tax forms can be painless, simple and free if you come to the Cannon AFB Tax Office. The Tax Office will open for this year's season on January 28 and remain open through April 15. They will begin scheduling appointments on January 21. The Tax Office is located next to the 27th Special Operations Wing Legal Office.

All active duty personnel, family members, retirees and federal civilian employees may have their federal and state income tax returns prepared at no cost. Last year, nearly 1,200 federal and more than 1,600 state returns were prepared, saving the Cannon community almost $218,000 in fees.

For individuals filing 1040EZ forms, walk-in hours will be Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Individuals filing Forms 1040 or 1040A should call 784-7304 to schedule an appointment. Appointments are available throughout the week.
There are certain things you need to bring in order to expedite service, such as social security cards and birth dates of taxpayers and dependents or last years electronic return, W-2s, 1099s, investment income paperwork, your bank account and routing number for direct deposit, powers of attorney (if applicable) and any other tax paperwork you received in the mail.

Due to lack of space and volume of people served, please make arrangements for child care while filing your taxes.

Check the Cannon Web site, www.cannon.af.mil, and the Commander's Access Channel, Channel 12, for information, updates and tax tips.

If you have any questions or to schedule an appointment, please call the Tax Office at 784-7304.
