Community News May - 31 Published May 31, 2007 By 27th Fighter Wing Public Affairs CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Flight Medicine Clinic merges The 27th Medical Group Flight Medicine Clinic merges with Family Practice on June 4. This temporary measure will better manage access to care in light of limited staffing due to deployments and Permanent Changes of Station. There will be no impact to services provided to flyers, special operators or their families. In addition, there will be no change to flight line and ambulance response. Beginning June 4 all Flight Medicine patients should report to the Family Practice Clinic area for care. Airman's Attic The Airman's Attic is open 10:30-1:30 p.m. on June 5 and June 19, noon to 3:30 p.m. June 12 and June 26 and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Staff sergeants and below and their families are eligible to select up to 20 items free per week for personal use. The Attic is located in the same building as the post office and community center. Donations are welcome, but should not be left outside the door. VA benefits seminar Veterans Administration representative John Fondrick offers guidance on all VA benefits from on June 5 and June 19 at the Airman and Family Resource Center. Call 784-4228 to make a reservation. Resume Basics A Resume Basics class from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on June 7 at the Airman and Family Resource Center provides resumes and cover letter information. Benefit plan representative to answer questions A Blue Cross and Blue Shield Service Benefit Plan representative is available to answer questions from 2-3 p.m. on June 7 in Bldg. 600, Suite 2038. Transition Assistance The next Transition Assistance Program Seminar (TAPS) is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on June 12, 13 and 14 at the Airman and Family Resource Center. Pre-separation counseling is mandatory for all personnel separating or retiring and is required before signing up for TAPS. Spouses are welcome to attend. For more information, call 784-4228. Low back pain clinic Learn proper lifting, strengthening and stretching techniques starting at 10:30 a.m. on June 18 in the Aerobics Room at the Fitness Center. Wear PT attire to learn by doing. Healthcare Council meeting The Community Healthcare Council meets at 4 p.m. on June 27 at the Landing. All 27th Medical Group beneficiaries are invited to attend. The Community Healthcare Council is a forum for the 27th Medical Group to interact with beneficiaries. Information on medical services, medical group events and the latest health benefit information is provided, along with a forum for feedback to the 27th Medical Group. Virtual commissary feedback sought Officials at the Defense Commissary Agency at Fort Lee, Va., are seeking customer feedback on potential expansion of its Virtual Commissary. Customers can provide comments using a short, three-question survey that is posted online at https://www.commissaries.com/online_grocery_survey.cfm. The survey is available now and will remain posted until mid-July. Customers access Virtual Commissary through DeCA's official Web site, http://www.commissaries.com. The link is located under the "Shopping" tab. Authorized shoppers log on using their last name, Social Security number and date of birth. The information is verified by DEERS, the Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System.
