Fitness center calms down for final game of day Published March 9, 2006 By Airman Thomas Trower 27th Fighter Wing Public Affairs CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Tuesday night was a rowdy night for the Cannon Fitness Center. The first two intramural basketball games ran into overtime and the third game sent someone to the hospital. Luckily for the sanity of the officials, the final game of the night was relatively calm. The two bottom teams in the National Division, CS and CES came to try and stay out of the loser slot. The game was relatively slow and constant, with CES taking a 29-20 lead at halftime and keeping a steady rhythm. CS tried to hold them back, but ran into trouble when one of their key players, Fumisho Bass, was caught in the jaw by a stray elbow. Bass stepped off the court for a few minutes, while his coach put on a jersey and joined the team. Bass’ 14 points were matched by his teammate, Reginald Patterson, who couldn’t stop sinking 3-pointers. This duo would have made a lethal combination, if it hadn’t been for CES’ own deadly duo. Damian Pardue and Sam Coger both managed to pull off 25 points for CES. In the second half, CS’ Craig McGuire took a hard fall onto his wrist, after being fouled. On his first foul shot, the ball curved dramatically toward the side with the injured wrist. McGuire was reluctant to give up his second foul shot to a teammate, as it would have made him ineligible to play the remainder of the game, and missed his second shot by the same amount. He stuck through the pain and continued to play for his team. Despite their best efforts, CS was unable to catch up and lost the game with a final score of 53-69. CS has a week off to rest up before taking on another team, while CES looks ahead to playing LRS #2 Monday and AMXS Tuesday.
