EMS turns the tables on LRS #2 with 32-point win Published Feb. 16, 2006 By Airman Thomas Trower 27th Fighter Wing Public Affairs CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- “We’re getting slaughtered,” groaned LRS’ Erik Chriswell to friends in the crowd. Chriswell and the rest of the 27th Logistics Readiness Squadron # 2 team tried to play the 27th Equipment Maintenance Squadron in Tuesday night’s intramural basketball game at the fitness center, but not many people there would call what occurred a game. The defeat began early in the game for LRS, progressively worsening to a halftime score of 23 to 38 and ending in a horrific 39 to 71 loss to the undefeated EMS. EMS seemed to glide down the court, throwing blind passes to teammates across the court and stopping on a dime for jump shots. Eight of the 13 players contributed heavily to the win, with Jerry Williams playing his part as the game’s top scorer with 20 points, 14 of which were in the second half. EMS’ Marvin Morrow and Darrell Harris were close behind, with 16 points each. Fighting for a two-point basket just a few minutes later, Chriswell went for a jump shot only to be stuffed by EMS’ Darron Williams, sending the gym into a roar. Chriswell walked off the court surrendering to the inevitable outcome, took off his jersey and remained on the sideline with five minutes left in the game. EMS’ coach Marvin Wade credited his team’s success to the involvement of his entire roster. “We always work on teamwork,” said Wade. “Not just the starters either.” The hardest challenge for EMS is simply “finding time to practice,” said Coach Wade. EMS was undefeated as of Wednesday night, and is looking ahead for their next challenge Monday against the MSS/CPTS team, which currently has a 3-1 record.
