CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- The Steadfast Fitness Ambassador Program launched April 6, 2026, expanding the reach of the Integrated Resilience Optimization Network across the installation.
Created to address the absence of coaches in a 24/7 operating environment, the program trains select Airmen to serve as ambassadors, extending Air Force Special Operations Command’s human performance advantage to Air Commandos preparing for demanding, around-the-clock operations.
“As part of their mental conditioning, Airmen in the ambassador program are trained in discreet verbal communication skills so they can reach Airmen at any point in their fitness journey,” said John, an operational psychologist. “This training helps ambassadors assess motivation levels and use communication to enhance performance.”
Ambassadors assist IRON coaches during large sessions and help maintain continuity for Airmen working swing and mid shifts. They follow structured programming designed by coaches and delivered through a third-party app.
“Air Commandos should be at peak mental and physical conditioning, and the ambassador program helps them leverage available resources to stay ready,” said Tony Cook, IRON physical domain branch chief.
The expansion of IRON through ambassadors is expected to create lasting impacts on both immediate readiness and the long-term health and resilience of Air Commandos across the Steadfast Line.
“I foresee this as a major step in Air Force fitness culture,” said Cook. “Having a knowledgeable person available within each squadron at all times is invaluable.”
Candidates must be physically fit, able to communicate corrections effectively, active participants in IRON sessions, have at least 12 months remaining on station and demonstrate an interest in strength and conditioning.
Airmen interested in participating should contact their squadron IRON coach.
The Steadfast Fitness Ambassador Program reflects the Steadfast Line’s continued investment in the human performance of Air Commandos executing demanding missions around the globe.
