CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- The 27th Special Operations Wing welcomed approximately 9,000 attendees to Wings Over Cannon 2026, as community members from across eastern New Mexico, West Texas and the surrounding region gathered to celebrate airpower, heritage, and community, June 6.
This year’s airshow honored the legacy of “Normandy to Now,” while highlighting the evolution of American airpower and special operations capabilities over the past eight decades. The event also served as a tribute to the 250th anniversary of the United States, celebrating the enduring spirit, resilience and innovation that have shaped our Nation since its founding.
Throughout the day, visitors enjoyed aerial demonstrations, static aircraft displays, STEM activities, live entertainment and opportunities to engage directly with military personnel.
Air Commandos from Cannon Air Force Base showcased the readiness, professionalism and global capabilities that support special operations missions around the world.
“Wings Over Cannon is about more than aircraft and demonstrations—it’s about connecting with the communities we serve,” said Col. Robert Johnston, commander of the 27th Special Operations Wing. “We are grateful to everyone who joined us to celebrate our nation’s history, honor those who came before us, and learn more about the Air Commandos and our mission. The tremendous turnout reflects the strong bond between Cannon Air Force Base and the communities that support us every day.”
The 27th Special Operations Wing extends its sincere appreciation to the thousands of guests, volunteers, performers, vendors, community organizations, first responders and military members whose support made Wings Over Cannon 2026 a success.
Planning is already underway for the next Wings Over Cannon Airshow scheduled for 2028. The 27th Special Operations Wing looks forward to welcoming the community back for another opportunity to celebrate aviation, service and the enduring partnership between Cannon Air Force Base and the region it proudly calls home.
